The adoption fee is $130. This covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, FIV/FeLV testing, and any veterinary care the cat received at AHS. A $25 deposit can reserve an approved cat while you prepare.

No. There are no same-day adoptions. Visiting is a chance to meet the cat and begin the process. All applications are reviewed by our adoption team before a placement is confirmed.

If you rent your home, yes — you must provide written proof that cats are permitted on your property before your adoption is approved. This protects you and the cat.

Yes. All cats adopted from AHS are fully vaccinated for their age, microchipped, spayed or neutered, and tested for FIV and FeLV. Medical records are provided at adoption.

We currently place cats in cat-only or cat-and-calm-dog homes on a case-by-case basis. Tell us about your dog in your application and we'll discuss compatibility.

Visitation is Monday through Friday, 7:00–9:00 PM. Weekend visits are available by text appointment only. Please do not arrive unannounced on weekends.

Weekday visits during open hours (Mon–Fri 7–9 PM) do not require an appointment. Weekend visits must be scheduled by text in advance.

No. We have limited capacity and must confirm space before accepting any cat. Please do not bring a cat to the shelter without prior arrangement, and never leave a cat unattended outside the building.

Youth volunteers aged 14–17 may volunteer with a participating adult guardian. Independent volunteer shifts require being 18 or older.

AHS provides all food, litter, medical care, medications, supplies, and emergency vet support. You provide the space, time, and care. Foster families are never expected to cover expenses.

Often yes. We discuss your current animals during the matching process and will suggest a cat that's likely compatible. We'll guide you through introductions.

Yes! We have an ongoing wishlist of food, litter, cleaning supplies, enrichment items, and cat care products. Items can be shipped directly from our wishlist or dropped off during shelter hours.

Yes. Alaska Humane Society is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. EIN / Tax ID: 92-0072189. Please retain your donation receipt for tax purposes.

No. You must contact us first and receive approval before bringing a cat to the facility. Do not bring a cat without confirmation, and never leave a cat outside unattended.
