Set Up a Safe Room First
- Choose a quiet room as a decompression zone.
- Place litter box, food, water, and scratching posts in that room.
- If a room has a bed, block access so cats can’t hide underneath.
- If cat is shy, add accessible hiding spots like soft cubes and cat trees.
- Keep the door closed for up to a week.
- Visit often — sit quietly and let the cat approach you.
Essential Supplies
- Litter box (one per cat, plus one extra)
- Unscented clumping litter (Recommended for home decompression; note our shelter wishlist requests World's Best Lavender specifically for communal shelter facility areas)
- Food and water bowls (ceramic or stainless)
- Age-appropriate dry and canned cat food
- Carrier with familiar-smelling bedding
- Scratching post — at least one per room
- Interactive toys (peacock feather, wand, puzzle feeder)
